What is the opera singer singing at the beginning of this song?
Mary Thomas. On stage however it was Kelly Groucutt doing falsetto.

That's WHO was singing, rather than WHAT was she singing.

For the record, I think it's "Far far away the music is playing" in German.

I'm pretty sure Kelly was lip-syncing to a tape live. If I recall, that was
one of the bits of evidence used to help a promoter win a lawsuit in '79
against ELO stemming from the "Out of the Blue" tour being primarily
pre-recorded and not live except for Jeff Lynne's vocals and guitar.

What is the opera singer singing at the beginning of this song?
Coincidentally, I've recently introduced this song to my kids (4 yo twins
& a 16 month-old) and my song wants to know what she's singing too.

Anyone have the German lyrics?

Thanks.
Jim

That should read "my son" - Adam, to be specific - a really cool 4
year-old.

She's singing nonsense.

I have the sheet music, and for those bars of music, it has no lyrics,
just the (hilarious) instruction: "Simulate Foreign Language"!

Hi,

found this on a lyrics site which makes sense to me as a native German
speaker (though the belcanto singing is not quite clear):

"Weit ..oops .. weit hinein in die Ferne
man hört, man hört die Musik"

Which is German and means something like:

Far.....oops ;-)....in the far distance one can hear (one can hear) the
music playing.

Regards,
Timo

1/2 German ancestry, but Ich spreche deutsch nicht (that's just a guess -
sorry if I mangled it)
